A rating system for content in the A.I age : "Soul? or Not"

Writer: Anirudh GuptaAnirudh Gupta

As A.I takes over content generation, the amount of audio, image, video, code and written-word being thrown at us is going absolutely parabolic.

The price of production is quite literally now zero. On cost, time, and talent.

It was hard enough to curate and manage my information diet before this LLM driven Cambrian explosion of content.

But now it's become critical to figure this out. With a system that works, to maintain my sanity.

I think there's going to be a K-shaped trajectory in the quality of content production, specially writing.

Some people will continue to write & produce authentically & originally, with soul. Using LLMs to compliment and amplify what they make.

Others will just brainlessly use LLMs as a crutch, to do the foundational prerequisite of basic thinking for them. And then feed into assembly-line production systems.

The difference is already starting to show up, in job applications, social posts, 'personalised' greeting messages i see.

The former has 'soul'. The latter just doesn't.

However good our A.I tools get and the closer we get to AGI, I believe 'soul', the uniqueness of a human voice, is going to stand out more than ever before. And us humans are going to strive harder, almost crave that ... in any content we consume.

The gnawing feeling in the back of your mind, "was this human?" - that's going to command a growing premium. We're wired to connect with each other, even distanced, unknown to each other, by the sharing of art. We've always sought feeling, in content. That human touch - is soul.

Makes me think, we need a new Black Mirror'esqe social rating system. That does away with 'hot or not', and 'like vs dislike'.

We need a 'Soul vs. no-soul' rating system on all that we produce.

Rated on by humans. For humans.
